Why this matters
Rapid urbanisation in Ghana is intensifying pressure on waste systems. Organic waste from markets is oftentimes dumped or burned, contributing to pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and serious public health risks.
The Project
Through the Waste-Free Markets project, Safisana is implementing a community-based waste segregation and recovery initiative across two major food markets in Ghana. The project supports market communities to separate organic waste at source and divert it away from unmanaged dumping sites.
